Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” – Matthew 28:18-20 NLT
As we begin a new year, let’s remember who we are as Antigo United Methodist Church. Remember the church does not belong to us, the church belongs to Jesus, so let’s listen to Him. And let’s remember the mission Jesus gave us.
If someone were to ask you, “What does it mean to be a Christian and to be the Church of Jesus Christ? And Please give me the short answer,” what would you say?
One day Jesus was asked a similar question. An expert in the Law came to Jesus, and asked Him, ““Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”( By the way, Jewish rabbi’s counted at least 613 commandments.) Jesus replied, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. ‘There is no commandment greater than these.”. Mark 12:30-31
Jesus said: Love God…
with all our heart worshipping only Him, no rivals or idols.
with all our soul, connecting with God and cultivating our relationship with Him through prayer, worship, and obedience.
with all our mind, studying God’s Word, growing our faith.
And with all our strength, using all our resources and abilities to serve Him.
Jesus said: Love people…we show love to people by helping them connect to God through Jesus Christ, by sharing what we have with those in need, and by serving them with our abilities, talents, and resources.
As we, the disciples of Jesus together, obey those two great commands…Love God and Love People… we will also be obeying the last command Jesus gave to His followers before He ascended to Heaven, called the Great Commission stated above.
So here is a description of us and our mission as Antigo United Methodist Church
Worship Connect Serve
This is what we are to be about as a church!
We worship God!
We connect God and people through Jesus and connect with one another!
We serve God by serving people.
There are many things we can be doing as a church, but what is most important?
Have a love-filled, joy-filled, grace-filled New Year!
