Jesus is Greater Than >

“Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son.” (Hebrews 1:1-2)

“Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.” (Corinthians 15:3-4)

Are You Ready to Celebrate the Wonderful Miracle of Easter? What miracle is that you ask? “Jesus Christ is risen!” This was the joyful news the angels shared with the women at the empty tomb. God has spoken forth proof of who Jesus is…through His resurrection from the dead!

The writer of Hebrews affirms “The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven.” (Hebrews 1:3-4) Jesus is Greater Than fear, sin, and death!. He completed His mission! Salvation is available to you and me!

When Matthew told us about what happened at the crucifixion, he said: “And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.” (Matthew 27:50-51) The curtain Matthew is talking about, was in the temple of Jerusalem. This curtain separated the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place…The Most Holy Place represented where God’s Presence was experienced, God’s throne room in the Old Testament. And only the high priest was allowed to enter that place and only once a year on the Day of Atonement, as he took the blood sacrifice of a goat to atone for the sins of the people.

When Jesus died, that curtain which was 60 feet high, 30 feet wide, and 4 inches thick, was torn in two…from top to bottom…signifying that through Jesus death and the one perfect sacrifice of Himself, Jesus tore down the curtain or barrier between people and God. And through His death on the cross, Jesus opened up the way in to the throne room of God. We may now enter the Presence of God.

Jesus has torn down the curtain between us and God, so that we may approach God’s throne with grace and confidence through the blood of Jesus. Jesus sacrifice is Greater Than our sin. This is part of the wonderful miracle of Easter. Tragedy was turned into triumph by the power of God. The resurrection is God’s announcement of victory over the powers of hell, sin, and death. All of the forces of evil, all the demons of hell, could not keep Jesus in his grave! Jesus is Greater Than all the principalities and powers of this world. The Easter promise is this: Because Jesus lives, we too will live, fully, abundantly, eternally…starting now! As the old hymn says: “He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today! He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way.”

So no matter what is going on in your life, take heart this Easter, and celebrate the Wonderful Miracle of Easter…the Victory of faith over fear, hope over despair and life over death. For Jesus Christ is Risen!

As we celebrate the miracle of resurrection, we will also begin a new sermon series entitled: Jesus is Greater >. I invite you to discover Jesus, greater than angels, greater than the prophets, greater than the power of sin, fear, and death. Discover Jesus who gives us hope, joy, and peace in our lives despite tough times. We will be using the book of Hebrews to help us glimpse that Greatness of Jesus and how Jesus is God’s Greatest Word to us! All because Jesus is Risen! Jesus is Greater!! See You in Worship Sunday mornings at 10:00!

Grace and Peace
