Building our Lives on a Strong Foundation

Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. (Matthew 7:24-25)

It certainly has been a summer of storms. One day a tree looking tall and strong…and the next day it’s laying on the ground pulled out by the roots….due to too much rain and extreme winds, taking the tree down to the ground. As I was driving around Antigo after the “big” storm, looking at the aftermath, I was reminded of the story that Jesus told about a wise builder and a foolish builder. You remember the story.

The wise person built their house on the rock, the foolish person built their house on the sand. When the storms hit, they hit both houses. The house built on sand collapsed, while the house built on rock stood firm. The parable of course is not really about houses, rain and wind…it’s about building our lives on a strong foundation.

Jesus told us what it means to build our lives on rock. Jesus is the Rock! Jesus is our Rock! He said that we are to build our lives with the Lord Jesus Christ as foundation and center of our living. In other words, we place our trust in Jesus, we follow Him fully, and we put Jesus’ Words into practice by obeying His teachings as found in the Scriptures.

Are we taking the time and effort to build our lives and our families on the strong foundation of Jesus Christ? Are we spending time in worship so that we  know Jesus better, and are we reading the Bible so we can put Jesus’ Words into practice?

We will all face storms in life, sometimes it’s as simple as a leaky basement, other times it’s a flood of hard circumstances, difficult relationships, financial or health problems. Storms will come. If you aren’t in the midst of a storm right now, chances are, you may be soon…that is life.

So let’s all make sure we are building our lives on solid ground, with a strong foundation by building our Lives on the Lord Jesus Christ!!

See you in worship Sunday Mornings @ 10:00!

Grace and Peace
